18th stage of the Tour de France...

This morning...our cycling class simulated the 18th stage of the Tour de France...I was focused...perfect pedaling...mind focused on the # of rpm's the instructor asked of us...we went up and down rolling mountains...I attempted to take the lead several times...visualizing what it would look like if I did...visualizing left turns...right turns...going down hill...in Cycle class...I use the music to get me where I need to be...there were moments during the ride that I thought about my writing...what I've done...what I need to do...I integrated that thinking into the turns...I integrated that thinking into the climbs...I noticed the thinking for what it was...let it go...then noticed other thoughts...am I pedaling through my heals...how's my breathing...are my shoulders relaxed...it was a very good ride and I want to bring that energy into the rest of the day with me!

I'm using our Writing into the Day space to think more about the poem I just read "Fire" by: Judy Brown and how it connects to what I've already written this morning...for me...the fire is my writing life...my life as a learner...a thinker, a reader...I guess you could say it's my entire life...the open spaces between the logs might be interpreted as Cycling, Running, Yoga, Meditation...the help keep "my fire"...my life going...my marriage...life long partnership with my wife Stephanie too could be consider a space between the logs...if in fact I'm defining "my fire"...my life...all of these things help me...keep my writing life moving forward...the experience I had this morning while cycling...the focus...the attention to the moment provided me the opportunity to think about how each of the "things" I mentioned above could be one and the same in a single moment...between pedal strokes...between breathes...between climbs...between glances at Stephanie.
